Current exhibits at Steinbeck Center feature Ansel Adams photos Two great Ansel Adams exhibits are currently displayed at the National Steinbeck Center. “Ansel Adams: Inspiration and Influence” runs through February and “Edges and Intersections: Ansel Adams in Yosemite” runs through March 10. “Ansel Adams: Inspiration and Influence” examines the work of Adams in the context of photographers around him and those he influenced. The exhibit includes approximately 80 photographs and pairs a number of Adams’ images with those by other photographers, allowing visitors to compare the techniques used and the various photographers’ artistic visions. “Edges and Intersections: Ansel Adams in Yosemite” treats the viewer to a personal view of Adams and celebrates the 100th anniversary of Adams’ birth and 100 years of the Best’s Studios, which evolved into the Ansel Adams Gallery in Yosemite. Adams was born in San Francisco in 1902, the same year that painter Harry Cassie Best opened a studio in Yosemite Valley. The Best and Adams families intertwined when Virginia Best and Ansel Adams were married. Original oil paintings by Harry Cassie Best, fine photographs, and memorabilia from the Adams/Best family collections are included in the exhibition. “Edges and Intersections” was made possible through the Yosemite Fund. A public program will be held Jan. 26, featuring Michael Adams, son of Ansel Adams. Both exhibitions are included with paid admission to the National Steinbeck Center.
